UPCOMING MASSES & EVENTS – MAY

PENTECOST EMBER DAYS – Wednesday, May 18, Friday May 20, and Saturday, May 21, 2016 are the Ember Days of Pentecost. Even though Pentecost is a very festive occasion, and the Liturgy has no traces of a penitential spirit for these days (there’s a Gloria, the Alleluia, no Flectamus genua, etc.), the tradition of the Church always kept these same days as days of fasting and partial abstinence.

Therefore, for those of us who would like to preserve the traditional practice (as during the other regular Ember Days), the practice is to have one full meal with meat and two small meatless meals on Wednesday and Saturday, but no meat on Friday.
